Let the mountain goats give you some hiking tips at beautiful Glacier National Park in northwestern Montana.  Glacier is also one of the best places in the lower 48 states to see grizzly bears.

If you're seeking to escape the heat of August, try staying at the lighthouse keeper's house at lovely Heceta Head  on the Oregon coast.  Or explore the small fishing port of Charleston - gateway to Sunset Bay, Shore Acres and Cape Arago state parks and to the South Slough National Estuarine Reserve.

FALL

Journey to Yellowstone National Park in mid to late September and you'll be rewarded with sights of golden aspens
and bugling male elk battling over females.

El Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve - Mexico
January through March is the time to watch gray whales at this biosphere reserve in Baja California.

The Klamath Basin - USA
Up to a thousand bald eagles can gather in the Klamath Basin of Oregon and California during winter months.  But the Basin's wildlife refuges are also spectacular places to bird during spring migration.

Piedras Blancas Beach - USA
Head to Piedras Blancas Beach near San Simeon, California in January and February to watch adult male elephant seals battle for dominance.  Pregnant females also arrive during winter months.

Malheur National Wildlife Refuge
Take a llama trek into normally closed sections of Malheur during the refuge's annual John Scharff Migratory Bird Festival in early April.  You can also rise early to watch sage grouse mating rituals or join "evening owl prowls."   Expect to see migrating songbirds, shorebirds, waterfowl, raptors and flocks of sandhill cranes.
