Wildlife Hotspots of South America


Where do you find naked-tailed armadillos, hairy-legged vampire bats, bare-eared squirrel monkeys and big-eared opossums?  On the diverse and biologically rich continent of South America. 

In the dark Amazon rainforests, you may hear screaming black howler monkeys or meet the world's largest spider - the goliath birdeater tarantula.  This arachnid can be up to a foot long and kills prey with venom injected by its one-inch fangs. 

On remote and desolate South Georgia Island, expect to see

thousands of king penguins and migratory seabirds.  Or explore Bolivia's Madidi National Park,
home to beautiful red-and-green macraws, black-faced spider monkeys and jaguars.  In Chile, you can take photos of guanacos framed by the towering peaks of Torres Del Paine National Park and watch Andean condors soar over Lago Pehoe.
